Built: 1854 (replaced an earlier church, built 1849, but destroyed by the great fire of 1852)
After the lecture Wilde was taken by the Bric-a-Brac Club for a reception of 150 people at the residence of Mr and Mrs Charles McCleary, 10th and L Streets.
At the mansion that evening, in Oscar's honor, were floral displays, musical interludes, readings (including one of Wilde's own poems), and there was a gallery of local oil, water color paintings, and other art including two embroideries by Mrs. M. M. Blakeney who hosted Wilde to dinner on his second visit to Sacramento.
Festivities would have finished no earlier than 11 o'clock, and it is not certain whether Wilde stayed in Sacramento that night or was able to return to his base at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco, where he was to lecture the following day.
